Don’t Wreck It, Goop It

When you finish one job, you want to move on to the next one and not have to worry about it again. But we all know that’s never going to happen. There is always that phone call saying ” we found some damage”. Wheather It’s on the bath, benches , windows or any number of non porous surfaces you’re always left thinking, how did that happen?
Windows are vulnerable to damage and scratches through the whole build. Most commonly by the gritty materials used by brickies and renderers. Drying hard on the glass it is always difficult to remove without causing scratches. The best remedy is to prevent anything from touching the glass. By gooping the glass surface you are placing a barrier between the mud and the glass which will in turn reduce scratches.
Bathtubs can be scratched more often than you think with even small scratches obvious to the eye on a glossy white surface. All sorts of rubbish finds its way into the bath during construction from wrappers to plasterboard and sharp metal screws. After that people needing to work around the bathtub can inadvertently rub this rubbish on the surface of the bath and cause the scratches. But not if the bathtub was gooped first.
How good is it to have a kitchen bench to work on, just the right height to leave a tool bag and all the power tools. Sure everyone does it but it’s the easiest way to get damage. Most of the tools have sharp edges, and with all the dust the tool bag is sure to rub in some scratches. Even if you can stop your trades doing this there is always work going on around them. Dropping tiles and hand tools and rubbing your tool belt along the edge can also be a cause for damage.
